The conference with Cesar Vidal exceeded our expectations. Cesar
Vidal is very well known in Spain, has a TV show, a radio show, and has written more than a hundred books.
He is known for confronting liberals in government, but his theme was “Who Really was Jesus?” In
a 45 minute talk he covered briefly most of the possibilities “people” have mentioned: he never existed, alien
from space, good teacher, liar, crazy, etc. He
is an historian, so he cited a number of sources, biblical and extra-biblical, to arrive at the conclusion that Jesus was
who He said He was. But the most interesting
time was the question and answer portion afterward.
The auditorium was 80%
full, with many towns people in attendance, including the mayor. Most
had little Christian background. One question: if there
are so many irrefutable proofs, why don’t the Jews believe? Someone
asked if Jesus appears in the Koran. Another had trouble buying that Jesus physically
ascended into the clouds. Another asked, given the downward spiral of the culture, what hope is there for Spain. I
can't begin to reproduce his responses, but they were for the most part right on.
The
best question was when from moderator, Flor, from our church. She referred to Cesar’s comment that one has to
decide whether or not Jesus was who he said He was. She
asked him whether he had decided, and how. That
of course opened the door for Cesar to give his testimony. The
end result is that the gospel was clearly preached to many non-Christians. We praise God for all He is doing in the
Camarma church.
